Nearly everyone has experienced the widespread and devastating effects of a loved one’s drug and alcohol use, now referred to as a substance use disorder (SUD).

During our journey, it never ceased to amaze me how many people had experienced it firsthand or knew someone going through it, and each time I shared what was going on in our family I learned that I was not alone.

Yet, families were often blamed, shamed, siloed from helping their loved one, so I did what comes naturally to me – I reached out, I connected, I shared, I wrote, and I created a community.

Today, as our loved one embraces and exemplifies long-term recovery, I am encouraged by how much the treatment and recovery community has evolved. It’s more caring, it’s more evidence based, and it’s more inclusive of families.

This is why I am proud to collaborate with Pam Lanhart from Thrive Family Recovery Resources to present a new version of From Statistics to Solutions – Including Family in Recovery. The day-long conference will take place on Wednesday, June 11, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Champlin Park High School. We welcome families and clinicians/professionals (CEUs provided) who will come together to learn and grow:

– Providing Culturally Responsive Care to Families Impacted by Addiction
– Multiple Pathways for Family Recovery
– How Family Recovery can Assist with Grief and Loss
– How the Criminal Justice System can Assist with Recovery
– Integrating Families in the Recovery Process
– Incorporating Peer Recovery Services in the Recovery Process
– Engaging media in strigma-free reporting

In the weeks ahead, I will share the speakers and their bios.

Many thanks for your support.
