There’s a painting on my wall that has been part of my life for nearly 40 years. It belonged to my mother-in-law, and I always admired it. When she passed away, I brought it home, and it found its place in our upstairs hallway, beautifully complementing our baguette-colored walls.

Yesterday, I paused to really look at it. As we prepare to embrace a new color palette in our home – no more gold and green tones – I wondered: Would this piece still fit? And then I realized—not only does it still work, but it also resonates even more now, especially with the red accents in our new decor.

For the first time, I looked beyond the painting itself and discovered its title: Spring Flowers. How serendipitous! As spring approaches and flowers bloom, I find myself often writing about them, appreciating their fleeting beauty. And then there was the artist’s name—Elizabeth Delson. A quick Google search later, I was immersed in learning about her work, her vision, and her story.

Similarly, I’m eagerly awaiting another piece of floral art—a commissioned watercolor by my friend and Two Minutes Du Jour guest poster, Barbara Mednick. She has woven my new paint colors and wallpaper into a one-of-a-kind creation, blending art with personal meaning in a way that makes my home feel even more like mine.

This experience made me think: How often do we truly see the art in our homes? How often do we stop to appreciate not just the image, but the story behind it—the artist’s name, the title, the way it fits into our lives?

Today, I invite you to take a closer look at the images on your walls. Is there something you’ve walked past a thousand times without really seeing? What can you learn about its creator? How does it blend with your surroundings in ways that bring you joy?

Sometimes, beauty isn’t just in what we see—it’s in what we take the time to notice.

What will you discover in your home today?
