December brings holiday gatherings, shopping, and to-do lists. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed or to convince yourself to stay home. But the holiday season is chance to reconnect—with others and with yourself—and to find joy in unexpected places.
Whether it’s a professional networking event or a casual gathering with family and friends, consider showing up with an open heart. Commit to staying for at least an hour; you might be surprised by the warmth you feel or the stories you hear. Even brief connections can make the hustle feel worthwhile.
This year, I’ll miss some of my favorite early-December traditions as I head to Panama to visit my sister, brother-in-law, and niece. I’m excited to experience the pre-Christmas vibe in a new setting. I plan to soak up some sunshine and store warmth for the long winter ahead.
Looking back on 2024, I’m especially grateful for the opportunities I’ve had to reconnect with old friends from high school and college and with colleagues from my career. These moments have been far more rewarding than I could have imagined. Sometimes, distance and time create room for us to reconnect in new and more appreciative ways—and even to make new friends along the way.
So, even if you’re feeling tired, stressed, or introverted (and believe me, I can relate), remember: ’Tis the season to connect. Do it in a way that brings you comfort and joy. Whether it’s attending a gathering, sharing a quiet moment with a loved one, or sending a thoughtful note, these acts of connection enrich the holiday season in ways that linger long after December ends.

But of course! Can’t wait to reconnect when I’m back home.
