Waiting leads to anticipation and also to new discoveries – if you’re curious. It’s the best kind of rabbit hole!
This spring, I added The Wives by Simone Gorrindo to my library list, intrigued by the memoir’s exploration of relationships, identity, and the journeys that shape us – in this case, it takes place at Fort Benning in Columbus, Ga, where my parents met in the early 1950s.
The book finally arrived this week, and I’m now a few engrossing chapters in. That long-awaited book exemplifies joy in anticipating something worthwhile and letting each new chapter unfold.
Reading The Wives stirred memories of another recent discovery—Anne Frank’s Diary, which I read for the first time this summer. Reflecting on Anne’s life and resilience opened a doorway to learning more, leading me to a new book on my list, When We Flew Away, a prequel about Anne Frank that promises to reveal even more about her story and the times in which she lived.
This cycle of discovering, reading, and exploring is its own adventure, each book unlocking the next level of interest and understanding. One book leads to another and my TBR list keeps growing!
We all have passions—whether it’s travel, cooking, art, or nature—that can deepen and evolve when we follow our curiosity. When we anticipate and savor each new layer, the process becomes as enriching as the experience itself. The wait and the process invite us to go deeper, to expand our appreciation, and to keep learning.
Anticipation opens doors to what might come next. Whatever your passion, keep searching for that next layer of interest. Each new discovery awaits, ready to inspire, engage, and bring new joys along the way.

One response to “Anticipation is a Path to Discovery”
Way to go, Alice…on down that rabbit hole! I wonder how the Fort Benning portrayed in the novel echoes any of what our own courting parents experienced there? Yes, the prequel to Diary could prove a great foundational read as well. let me know when it gets to you and what you think.
