This time of year, we naturally think of “back to school.” But this season isn’t just for kids; it’s an invitation for all of us to explore new learning opportunities.
Whether you’re considering going back to school formally to pursue a degree or simply looking to pick up a new skill, there has never been a better time to dive into learning.
Today, the options for learning are vast and varied. You can take a class at your local community college, earn a certificate through LinkedIn Learning, attend a webinar offered by your professional association, or even learn a new language with programs like Duolingo, Rosetta Stone, or Babbel.
Geography, cost, and time are no longer significant barriers to learning. You can find free resources, online classes, and flexible schedules that fit your life.
Learning isn’t confined to the academics, either. Maybe this fall, you’ll finally learn how to knit, play an instrument, change the oil in your car, or even tackle a DIY home project.
Not every subject will capture your interest or be worth your time, but the sheer abundance of options means that there’s something out there for everyone.
For me, this “back to school” season feels a little different. After 20 years of teaching as an adjunct professor at Metro State, I retired earlier this year. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there, not only because of the opportunity to teach but also because I learned so much from my students and our guest speakers. Now, I’m finding a new way to learn through this blog—exploring topics, discovering sources, and sharing them with you, my readers.
So, as you think about what new horizons you want to explore this fall, remember that learning is a lifelong journey.
“Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow.” — Anthony J. D’Angelo
Whether it’s for personal growth, professional development, or simply the joy of discovering something new, take that step to learn. The world is full of opportunities, and it’s never been easier to grasp them.
