One of the things I like best about Saturdays is not having a set schedule. No morning huddle with the team – as much as I love my work colleagues. It’s not that I don’t have a few to-do items, but it’s liberating to have 24 hours to choose how and when I spend them.

My son’s leopard gecko (RIP) was always a curious sort. Who knew a reptile could have so much personality, and also live so long! Speedy’s expression says it all, “What are we going to do today?”

His sense of wonder is great inspiration to explore and discover without the confines of meetings, deadlines and commitments. But before the fun, I clear my checklist so the rest of the day can unfold as it will.

Today’s checklist includes grading student papers. It hasn’t fully hit me that this is the LAST round. Ever. My co-teacher and I are retiring at the end of spring semester. After 20 years of being an adjunct professor of communications at Metro State in the Twin Cities, my weekend routine of grading papers while watching the Food Network or listening to music is about to wrap up.

I’m curious to know how I will redirect my teaching/grading time. What new things will I explore and discover? Starting Two Minutes Du Jour is part of this “next chapter,” and one I can’t wait to embrace.

As for the rest of today, I get to partake in my daily favs, including a long walk with my husband and our dog Duke; an extended yoga session (I think it will include a strength-building practice as well as some restorative asanas); time on the back deck with just 100 pages to go in my latest historical fiction, The Book of Lost Names by Kristin Harmel; and some serious time with Duolingo – I really need to score some points to keep my leader board standing.

The variety of options for today are close to home promising fun and energetic yet relaxing options. I’ll be channeling my “Speedy” sense of curiosity as I embrace my sense of Saturday.

Here’s wishing you a wonderful weekend!
